Folio Number

A folio number is the account number assigned to you by a fund house. It identifies your holdings with that AMC, much like a bank account number.

How folios work

Your first investment with an AMC creates a folio. Further investments - in the same or a different scheme of that AMC - can be made in the same folio, so all your holdings with that fund house appear in one place.

Each folio carries your KYC, bank account, nominee and mode-of-holding details. Investing in the same AMC under different holding patterns (for example single vs joint) creates separate folios.

Good practices

  • Consolidate multiple folios with the same AMC and holding pattern to simplify tracking
  • Keep nominee and bank details updated in each folio
  • Use your Consolidated Account Statement (CAS) to see all folios across AMCs together

Frequently asked questions
