What KYC involves
- PAN (mandatory) and proof of address such as Aadhaar, passport or voter ID
- Photograph, contact details and in-person or video verification
- Your KYC is recorded with a SEBI-registered KYC Registration Agency (KRA) and the Central KYC Registry (CKYC)
KYC status
Your KYC may show as Validated, Registered or On Hold / Rejected. 'Validated' records (verified against official databases such as Aadhaar / income-tax records) can be used across all market intermediaries. If your status is On Hold, you will need to update the details flagged by the KRA before you can transact.
Keeping KYC current
- Update your mobile number and email - they must be validated
- Inform the KRA / AMC promptly of any change in address or name
- You can check your KYC status on any KRA website using your PAN
Frequently asked questions
- Do I need to do KYC separately for each AMC?
- No. KYC done once through a KRA is valid across all mutual funds, unless it is on hold or needs updating.
- Can NRIs complete KYC?
- Yes, with additional documents such as overseas address proof and FATCA / CRS declarations.
