How the Retire Early calculator works
Retiring early means your savings must fund more years of living costs, and those costs keep rising with inflation. This calculator works in two steps.
First it estimates the corpus you'll need on your retirement day to pay inflation-rising expenses until your life expectancy. Then it works out the monthly SIP required to build that corpus by the age you want to retire.
Worked example
A 30-year-old spending ₹50,000 a month who wants to retire at 50 and plan to 85 (6% inflation, 12% return before and 7% after retirement) will need about ₹1,60,357 a month at 50. Funding 35 years of that needs a corpus of roughly ₹5.39 crore, which means a SIP of about ₹53,945 a month for 20 years.
Things to keep in mind
- Estimates are sensitive to returns and inflation - a 1% change can shift the result significantly, so review your plan every year.
- Keep a separate emergency fund and adequate health insurance; medical costs are the biggest risk to an early-retirement plan.
- A step-up SIP that rises with your income can make a demanding target much more achievable.

Frequently asked questions
What life expectancy should I assume?
Plan conservatively - 85 to 90 is common - so you don't outlive your money.
What return should I assume after retirement?
Usually lower than before retirement, because a retirement portfolio holds more debt for stability. 6%–8% is a common planning range.
How can I reduce the SIP required?
Start earlier, step up your SIP annually, retire a little later, reduce planned expenses or keep some growth assets in retirement.
