Frequently asked questions
Quick answers about car insurance. Still have a question? We're happy to help.
Is car insurance mandatory?
Yes. At least third-party insurance is legally required to drive on Indian roads. Comprehensive cover is optional but protects your own car too.
What is the difference between third-party and comprehensive cover?
Third-party covers your liability for injury or damage to others. Comprehensive adds cover for damage to or theft of your own car.
What is zero-depreciation cover?
An add-on under which the insurer pays the full cost of replaced parts without deducting depreciation, subject to policy terms. It's popular for new cars.
How is the premium decided?
It depends on the car's make, model, age, city, IDV, cover type, add-ons chosen and your No Claim Bonus.
Can I transfer my No Claim Bonus to a new car?
Yes. The NCB belongs to the policyholder and can be transferred to a new vehicle of the same class within the permitted time.
