Tax Saving (ELSS)
Equity Linked Savings Schemes let you claim a deduction under Section 80C of the old tax regime while investing for long-term growth - with just a 3-year lock-in.
Save tax, build wealth
ELSS funds are diversified equity mutual funds that qualify for a deduction under Section 80C of the Income Tax Act (old tax regime), up to the overall ₹1.5 lakh limit. Among 80C options they have the shortest lock-in of three years. Investing through a monthly SIP avoids the last-minute March rush and spreads your entry through the year.

Frequently asked questions
Quick answers about tax saving (elss). Still have a question? We're happy to help.
How much tax can I save with ELSS?
ELSS qualifies for a deduction under Section 80C of the old tax regime, within the combined ₹1.5 lakh limit shared with PF, PPF, life insurance premiums and others. Your actual saving depends on your tax slab.
Does ELSS work under the new tax regime?
No. The Section 80C deduction is not available under the new tax regime. ELSS can still be held as a regular equity fund, but without the deduction.
How does the lock-in work for SIPs?
Each SIP instalment is locked in for three years from its own investment date, so units become free for redemption in a rolling manner.
How are ELSS returns taxed?
Gains on redemption are treated as long-term capital gains on equity and taxed as per prevailing rules, with an annual exemption threshold.
Can I redeem ELSS before three years?
No. The three-year lock-in is mandatory and applies even in emergencies, so plan liquidity separately.
